LEAP is a program for children ages 3-5 years who present with behavioral concerns such as defiance, disruption, anxiety, maladjustment to current living situations, grief, mood disorders, and verbal and physical aggression.
The program focuses on behavioral concerns and peer interaction in a structured classroom environment. The goal is to prepare the children to be ready to attend kindergarten. LEAP has field trips to local parks, historical sites, restaurants and other locations in Fort Smith and Van Buren.
The LEAP team includes a licensed Clinical Social Worker/Play Therapist, a Mental Health Paraprofessional (MHPP) and an adult assistant. In addition to attending LEAP, each child and their family are provided individual and family counseling services from The Guidance Center.
LEAP is available in Fort Smith at the Center's Main Clinic and in Van Buren at The Learning Center.
